Summer Heat Tech Tips

AS-Scion & ASL

We all know how blistering hot it can get in Louisiana during the summer time, and getting into a hot car is no fun. You burn your legs on your hot leather seats, you feel like you need to wear oven mitts to touch your steering wheel and your dripping sweat before you even start your car! Summer can be tough on cars, especially during high temperatures when heat can destroy batteries and stress the cooling system and tires. As a precaution, these vehicle components should be checked periodically during summer to help avoid breakdowns and car problems. All Star Lincoln is here to help! Here are some great summer tech tips to make sure your car is in perfect condition for the hot Louisiana weather.

Tires need extra special care in warmer weather as high temperatures put added stress on them. To maximize tire life and safety, check the tire condition and inflation pressure monthly. It is also good to have the tires rotated every 5,000 – 6,000 miles or every other oil change. Summer heat will cause the pressure within a tire to rise, therefore, it’s important to check the pressure when tires are cold. Your vehicle’s owner manual includes the recommended air pressure for your vehicle’s tires.

Your brakes are the single most important safety feature on your car. Don’t put yourself or your family at risk this summer by riding around on worn down or faulty brakes. Brakes need to be replaced when the lining on your brake pad or brake shoe is worn down past the minimum thickness specified by the car manufacturer or state law. Here are some signs that your brakes need to be checked:

  • Your brake pedal becomes very soft and mushy
  • Your brake pedal is very hard and resistant
  • Your brake pedal rests too low or too high
  • Indication or warning lights on the dashboard
  • Loud and constant scraping and grinding sounds coming from the brakes

Burning your legs on a hot leather seats or touching the piercing hot steering wheel, is never fun. So to help prevent this, some investments need to be made. A sunshade is a cheap and great way to keep your seats cooled while your vehicle is parked. It almost looks like aluminum fool is stretched across the inside of your windshield. There are also ones designed for the back seats to keep your children’s seats cooled as well. To keep your vehicle cool while it’s in motion, have tinted windows! It allows light to pass through but most of it is reflected. Remember that at least 70% of light needs to pass through the tint in order for it to be legal.
