The Red Stick Farmers Market
The Red Stick Farmers Market is great for a nice morning walk to go and get some fresh produce for your Labor Day cookout! Fresh and local vegetables and fruits are always a pleasant combination. It is always great to wake up on the weekend mornings to go and take a nice stroll through the Farmers Market. There will be plenty of offerings, from plants to homemade sweets! The Farmers Market will open there doors at 8:00 a.m. and close at 12:00 p.m. The location of the market is on 5th and Mainstreet, downtown Baton Rouge. This is a great opportunity to support our local farmers,and get some fresh produce!
LSU Lakes Outdoor Adventures
The LSU Lakes are always a great option for families who are wanting more of a quiet day and away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan. This silent, and serene location is great to sit back and be one with nature. There you can bike, kayak, and much more. No worries if you do not have the outdoor gear on hand, LSU UREC has all the gear you need for this relaxing, adventurous spot! Rental gear can be purchased at UREC. This definitely the spot to be to spend quality time with the family, and the best part is- free admission!
Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center
Do you and your family enjoy bird watching, are just being in nature? If so, this is the activity for you and your loved ones! The Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is the ideal place to go and see some amazing wildlife outside of the zoo. The flora and fauna there is a picturesque scene from a painting. The Swamp Center is filled with exhibits, presentations, and of course nature! They provide hands on learning, and great outdoor experiences. The park opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. Its located one block off of Bluebonnet Blvd. between Perkins and Highland Road. Turn toward the Whitney Bank and follow N. Oak Hills Pkwy into our parking lot. Ages 2 and younger: free Ages 3-17:$2 Ages 18-64: $3 Ages 65 and older: $2.50 Full-time college students with university ID: $2.50.
